A PRAYER FOR THE RECENTLY DEPARTED

Gracious God, I pray on behalf of your servant ___, that you grant him/her an entrance into the land of light and joy, in the fellowship of your saints through Jesus Christ our Lord, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and for ever. Amen.

A PRAYER OF OUR CHRISTIAN HOPE IN DEATH

O God, whose days are without end, and whose mercies cannot be numbered: Make us, we pray, deeply aware of the shortness and uncertainty of human life and let your Holy Spirit lead us in holiness and righteousness all our days that, when we shall have served you in our generation, we may be gathered to our ancestors, having the testimony of a good conscience, in the communion of the Catholic Church, in the confidence of a certain faith, in the comfort of a religious and holy hope, in favor with you, our God, and in perfect charity with the world. All this we ask through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

A PRAYER FOR GUIDANCE UNTIL OUR JOURNEY’S END

O Lord, support us all the day long of this troubled life, until the shadows lengthen, and the evening comes, and the busy world is hushed, and the fever of life is over, and our work is done. Then, Lord, in thy mercy, grant us a safe lodging, a holy rest, and peace at the last. Amen.

A PRAYER FOR SOMEONE SICK

Heavenly Father, giver of life and health: Comfort and relieve your sick servant ___, and give your power of healing to those who minister to her/his needs, that she may be strengthened in her weakness and have confidence in your loving care through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

A PRAYER WHEN YOU ARE SICK

Lord Jesus Christ, by your patience in suffering you hallowed earthly pain and gave us the example of obedience to your Father’s will: Be near me in my time of weakness and pain sustain me by your grace, that my strength and courage may not fail heal me according to your will and help me always to believe that what happens to me here is of little account if you hold me in eternal life, my Lord and my God. Amen.

A PRAYER FOR A SICK CHILD

Lord Jesus Christ, Good Shepherd of the sheep, you gather the lambs in your arms and carry them in your bosom: We commend to your loving care this child (NAME.) Relieve her/his pain, guard her/him from all danger, restore to her/him your gifts of gladness and strength, and raise her/him up to a life of service to you. Hear us, we pray, for you dear Name’s sake. Amen.

A PRAYER FOR FAMILY

Almighty God, our heavenly Father, who set the solitary in families: We commend to thy continual care the homes in which thy people dwell. Put far from them, we beseech thee, every root of bitterness, the desire of vainglory, and the pride of life. Fill them with faith, virtue, knowledge, temperance, patience, godliness. Knit together in constant affection those who, in holy wedlock, have been made one flesh. Turn the hearts of the parents to the children, and the hearts of the children to the parents and so enkindle fervent charity among us all, that we may evermore be kindly affectioned one to another through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

A PRAYER FOR IN THE MORNING

Lord God, almighty and everlasting Father, you have brought us in safety to this new day: Preserve us with your mighty power, that we may not fall into sin, nor be overcome by adversity and in all we do, direct us to the fulfilling of your purpose through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

A PRAYER FOR IN THE EVENING

Lord Jesus, stay with us, for evening is at hand and the day is past, be our companion in the way, kindle our hearts, and awaken hope, that we may know you as you are revealed in Scripture and the breaking of bread. Grant this for the sake of your love. Amen.
